With Microsoft pushing WPF hard in VS2015 it’s time to raise the question again, should you choose WinForms or WPF for your next desktop application? In this talk, Paul will host a healthy debate looking at the future of Windows development and how WinForms developers can look to migrate to WPF.

Paul Usher is a Technical Evangelist at DevExpress. DevExpress technologies help software developers build high-performance business solutions, see complex software with greater clarity, increase productivity, and create stunning applications for Windows® and the Web in the shortest possible time.

Prior to joining DevExpress, Paul ran (and still owns) an independent software development company which specializes in custom solutions for small to medium businesses, with a focus on mobile and paperless solutions. 6.20 What’s New
Having trouble keeping up with all the recent releases. An interactive session about what’s been happening in the DotNet Scene.

6.40 Ben Laan- MatrixGroup – Structured JavaScript within ASP.NET MVC

Modern web development calls for more JavaScript than ever before. Loose, unorganised script files are no longer acceptable – or sometimes manageable. It is important to ensure those scripts are logically organised, structured, and testable, to ensure code quality.
This presentation will review techniques for organising code to meet these goals within an ASP.NET MVC context using RequireJs – a system for dependency management and Qunit – a unit test framework build by the JQuery team.

About Ben
Ben Laan has over 17 years of professional software experience, and has programmed since he was 11. He is married with 2 children, aged 5 and 3, and has lived in Adelaide for most of his life, and follows the Adelaide Crows and 36ers.

He is passionate about computing, enjoying both the art and science of software development, and had a commitment to continuous improvement and learning new technologies. His experience encompasses all aspects of the analysis, design, development and integration of software systems, including mentoring, training, and software leadership.

Hi knowledge of software development encompasses back-end, desktop, web service and web development within the Windows platform, using both Win32 and managed APIs (.NET Framework), and proprietary and open source packages.

Lately he’s been spending his work hours building an ASP.NET MVC enterprise application, and spends his few free personal hours working on various SPA projects using DurandalJs, and experimenting with other JavaScript technologies
