5.45pm – Azure Explained with Paul Usher

The thing about Azure, as with any cloud service, is understanding what is available. Join Paul Usher as he takes us through the most common uses of Azure, Web, Mobile, Data. In this session Paul will show just how quickly you can get up to speed with Microsoft’s cloud offerings, as well as creating database, blob storage and building a simple yet powerful website in VS and deploying with a few clicks. You can also see some of the other features of Azure at work. Fast paced, lots to see and learn and of course always room for some fun.

Buddy is a cloud platform for IoT devices, based out of Seattle, Washington. I was contacted recently by their VP of Product and Engineering, Habib Heydarian. Habib was previously Group Program Manager for .NET at Microsoft (which included CLR, Framework, C#, F#, VB).

Habib told me that Buddy are setting up an engineering office here in Adelaide. He and Buddy’s CEO are planning to visit in the next couple of months and are keen to work with ADNUG make contact with developers looking for an exciting new opportunity.

As soon as dates for their visit are locked in, we’ll let you know more.
Department of Human Services

The DHS are advertising for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) graduates (including locations in Adelaide). Check out their STEM ICT Recruitment page for more details.

Most people like meeting at Marcellinas, but as summer approaches and with daylight saving upon us, a practical issue of sunlight in the room (and ability to see the projected screen) comes into play. If you know of an alternative venue available after hours that we could use over the summer months, let me know!

DDD Adelaide?

I had the privilege to attend and present at DDD Melbourne in August. It was exciting to be a part of such a large, well organised day with almost 400 developers gathering together to share learn and connect with each other.

It got me thinking – it’s been about 4 years since we last held a DDD Adelaide event. If you’d like to see Adelaide host an all-day developer event in 2016, please get in touch with me – especially if you’d like to help with planning and organisation, or willing to help out on the day.

Annual ADNUG membership gives you access to all our monthly meetings. Becoming a member works out at a nice discount compared to paying $5 each month!
